  • Over 250 people were feared drowned this week after they set off in a small boat from the coast of North Africa in an attempt to reach the Italian Island of Lampedusa.

    The tragedy highlighted a growing problem for Italy over what to do with the flood of migrants that has resulted from the Arab uprisings in Tunisia and Libya.

    Fiona Symon spoke to Guy Dinmore, the FT's Rome correspondent, about how Italy is tackling the problem.
