Angela Merkel, Germany’s chancellor, said at the weekend that the country’s attempts to form a multicultural society had failed and that both Muslim immigrants and indigenous Germans had to make greater efforts towards integration. Fiona Symon speaks to Quentin Peel, the FT’s Berlin correspondent, about Merkel’s remarks.
